Learning to love the rain

From the attic: I’ve written this years ago but didn’t publish it for one reason or another. It’s not recent, but worth a thought or two anyways… Whatever, here comes:

The other day, I had a very interesting discussion with a friend-colleague-mentor about unpopular truths in large corporate environments.

A while ago, he had said that he now has a special mission: “Satyagraha“, which to him meant: Make sure that the truth is always told, never mind how unpopular it may be. We both find that keeping the truth prominent is essential especially in large corporations to keep them from rotting inside-out. At the same time, it’s especially difficult in large corporations, and there is little to no recognition to it.

In that discussion the other day, we discussed our own experiences with telling unpleasant truths. He is travelling large corporations easily ten years longer than I, and eventually he concluded:

You need to realize: when telling the truth, you are always alone. It’s cold out there, it’s dark and it’s raining. The only way to keep your sanity is to learn to love the rain.

What if I neither want to learn loving the rain nor stop telling the truth?
